ParkGate Home's story begins with the dream of two friends, Cathy and Laura, who believe that every home should be designed to welcome you with comfort and simple beauty.

Their shared vision reflects a fresh approach to timeless design. Each piece has been thoughtfully selected for its individual interest, texture, color and beauty. Unique art and rustic architectural elements blend seamlessly with clean, modern furniture pieces creating ParkGate's distinctive style. We recognize that design is not static and the special pieces you invest in today will adapt to your evolving lifestyle needs.

Our highly experienced and approachable team of designers is here to welcome and assist you in making selections that are right for your home and lifestyle.

Cathy and Laura, together with the entire ParkGate team, invite you to share their dream.

About Us: Owners Cathy Ettel and Laura Pohlen

Cathy is well recognized within the Bay Area design community as the former Manager at Traditions on Santa Cruz Ave in Menlo Park. She brings nearly 20 years of extensive experience in design consulting, buying, merchandising and managing to ParkGate Home.

Cathy is passionate about creating interest and beauty in a space with emphasis on varying textures and attention to detail. ParkGate reflects this eclectic blend of textures in fabrics, wallcoverings, accessories and furnishings. We think the result is simply beautiful!

After completing a BA in Marketing & Merchandising and MBA at University of St. Thomas, Cathy pursued Design at Cañada College. This strong design and business background have now combined in the creation of ParkGate.

It is not surprising that home and family are tops on Cathy's priority list! "There is absolutely nothing better than getting cozy at home in the evening, with a glass of wine by the fire, and family close by."

Design comes naturally for Laura. She began as a young child, rearranging the furniture in her family's home on an ongoing basis and even painting the concrete basement floor red before a big family party.

Textiles and color are Laura's passions. Her BS in Textiles and Clothing from Rutgers University was later followed by Interior Design at Cañada College. While raising her three children, she ran her design business integrating property development and management for clients.

Her love of entertaining and travel, together with a life long dream of owning her own design store aligns perfectly with ParkGate Home. Laura, together with Cathy, welcomes you to ParkGate where beautiful objects have been carefully selected during many travels, and color and fabulous textiles come together as one. For Laura, "ParkGate feels like home."
